Thanking volunteers for their service and dedication
April 8, 2019Riverside Healthcare will celebrate National Volunteer Week April 7-13 by honoring our community volunteers who play an integral role in advancing patient experience and quality care. In 2018, over 950 unique volunteers served a collective 28,588 hours!
Volunteers have been part of Riverside's identity even before our doors opened. In fact, Riverside celebrated our 55th anniversary this January and remembered our first community volunteers who went door to door raising money to build Riverside Hospital.
"A smile, personally escorting a patient to an appointment, ensuring a family gets updates during their loved one's surgery, bringing a therapy dog to a patient room, hosting activities for seniors - the list goes on and on," said Lauren Short, Director of Volunteer Services. "Volunteers add a personal touch to what can be a very stressful time for our patients and their families."
President Richard Nixon established National Volunteer Week with an executive order in 1974 as a way to celebrate service efforts. Join your peers nationwide in recognizing the important time and talents of our community volunteers!
