A Message from the Cardiology Program Director:
Dear Prospective Applicant,
Thank you for your interest in the cardiovascular fellowship program at Riverside Medical Center. Our fellowship program is a three-year program fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Our program aims to provide our cardiology fellows with expertise in all aspects of cardiovascular disease and to deliver comprehensive care to a diverse population of patients. Our fellows will learn the management of acute coronary syndrome, cardiac arrhythmia, lipid disorders, valvular disease, advanced heart failure, mechanical circulatory support, and interventional cardiology. Advanced heart failure rotation occurs at the University of Chicago, where fellows will learn the management of left ventricular assisted devices and pre and post-cardiac transplant patients. We also offer our fellows an additional opportunity for an outside rotation in advanced cardiac imaging at Loyola University Medical Center. All fellows must achieve at least COCATS level II training in transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiogram, nuclear cardiology, coronary angiogram, and cardiac CT/MRI imaging.
Our faculty are highly dedicated to teaching and providing a unique and engaging learning environment during our multi-disciplinary conferences. Our lecture conferences highlight core knowledge content in multiple subspecialty areas, including echocardiography, cardiac imaging (CT/MRI), cardiac electrophysiology, cardiac catheterization, and peripheral and structural heart intervention. The monthly journal club also allows fellows to discuss new studies and learn how to interpret analytical data. To complement our clinical training, we invite speakers from University Programs to provide lectures at Cardiology Grand Rounds.
Our fellows are encouraged to work with their research mentors and develop research projects early in their training. Fellows have the opportunity to present their studies at our research symposium, national meeting or publish their study during their fellowship. The mission of our cardiovascular fellowship program is to prepare our fellows in training to be highly competent cardiologists for future practices in academic or community hospitals.
Many of our graduated fellows continued their education in subspecialties such as interventional cardiology, cardiac electrophysiology, or advanced cardiac imaging fellowship. Some of our fellows chose to practice clinical cardiology in the Chicago area or out of state. We take pride in our fellow’s achievements in their education and careers in cardiovascular medicine. We hope that you will decide to join our program to learn and prepare yourself for a future career as an outstanding cardiologist.
Sincerely,
Nha Huynh, DO
