Aneurysm

Our neurosurgeons use the latest techniques to repair brain aneurysms, which are bulges in blood vessels that can rupture and cause strokes.

Back and Spine Conditions

Whether you have chronic pain or a recent injury, our experts can help. For some patients, conservative treatments, such as exercise and physical therapy, may be the best medicine. For more complex or hard-to-treat back problems, our neurosurgeons can recommend the most effective solutions. For spinal cord injuries, your doctor may refer you to a Riverside physical therapist for advanced spine therapy following your treatment.

Epilepsy

If you’re one of the more than three million Americans living with epilepsy, our doctors can offer therapies that help reduce your risk for seizures, which may be brought on by various brain disorders. Treatments include medications called anticonvulsants, nerve stimulation to disrupt faulty signals in the nervous system and, in some cases, surgery to remove brain tissue that may trigger seizures.

Movement Disorders

The collaborative team at the Riverside Neurosciences Institute offers hope for patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD), epilepsy, dystonia and others. This diverse group of neurological conditions can cause paralysis, tremors, twitching and other symptoms caused by damage to parts of the nervous system that control muscle movement. Medication and physical therapy are the mainstays of treatment for these conditions, as well as other interventions that help control signals in the brain that cause movement disorders.

Memory Disorders

If you or a loved one is struggling with forgetfulness, difficulty completing familiar tasks, confusion or other cognitive impairments, specialists at our Memory Center can perform a complete evaluation to determine if early dementia is the cause. Medication may slow the disorder's progress and improve symptoms, and our experts can teach patients and their families coping strategies.

Multiple Sclerosis (MS)

At Riverside Neurosciences Institute, we recognize that managing multiple sclerosis requires an ongoing commitment from both physician and patient. To treat MS, which occurs when the body’s defense system mistakenly attacks nerves in the brain, spinal cord and elsewhere, our doctors can prescribe a variety of medications that help patients control symptoms.

Parkinson’s Disease (PD)

If you have Parkinson’s disease, working closely with our team of specialists can help you manage symptoms and maintain an active lifestyle. Medication is the foundation of controlling PD, a neuromuscular disorder caused by a drop in an important brain chemical. It causes tremors and a gradual loss of muscle function. Some patients may be candidates for surgical options like deep brain stimulation, in which a device is implanted to reduce abnormal brain signals.

Stroke

Every 40 seconds, someone in the U.S. suffers a stroke. Stroke can occur when blood flow to the brain is reduced or blocked or through bleeding inside the brain. The Riverside Stroke Center was the first certified Primary Stroke Center in the region and is a national leader in the emergency treatment of strokes, helping patients recover more fully from a devastating “brain attack.” Our team of neurologists and neurohospitalists provide rapid-response treatment to stroke patients in the ER and ongoing care in the hospital. In addition, through our collaboration with Rush University Medical Center and the use of telemedicine, their experts can remotely assess stroke patients and consult on the most complex cases.
