Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE)


CPE Programs at Riverside Medical Center

Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) for Level I and Level II is offered at RMC, accredited by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) as a CPE Center. CPE is an action/reflection process of theological education grounded in a person-centered approach to pastoral ministry. As an interdisciplinary healthcare team member, the student’s education experience involves providing pastoral care to patients, families and staff.

Fee: $50.00 Application fee (returned if the student is not accepted into the unit). There is NO CHARGE for this Unit of CPE.

2024 Unit of CPE

Orientation: August 5, 6 & 7 (RMC first unit CPE students) or August 7 (RMC CPE returning students)

Class Schedule: Extends every Wednesday, August 14, 2024 through December 18, 2024 and January 8, 2025

2025 Unit of CPE

Orientation: January 13, 14 & 15 (RMC first unit CPE students) or January 15 (RMC CPE returning students)

Class Schedule: Extends every Wednesday, January 22 through June 11

2025 Unit of CPE (Second Session)

Orientation: August 4, 5 & 6 (RMC first unit CPE students) or August 6 (RMC CPE returning students)

Class Schedule: Extends every Wednesday, August 13, through December 17 and January 7, 2026

If you would like to pick up a unit of CPE, regardless if it is your first or fourth, please let Rev. Collins know. CPE can give you more ministry potential providing the education needed to prepare you as either a full-time Chaplain, a contract Chaplain moonlighting to subsidize your career or to enhance your pastoral skills in other settings. Both clergy and non-clergy can apply for an Extended Unit of CPE.

This 20-week program is primarily designed for individuals who need to work full-time while also developing evidence-based clinical skills as a professional chaplain or for personal development in providing ministry in other settings. For students whose goal is to be a professional chaplains, the unit is intended to be a building block in one’s preparation for board certification as a chaplain. The standards and outcomes of ACPE, along with an understanding of the BCCI outcomes of APC or NACC, are incorporated together.
