Gastroenterology Fellowship
A Message from the Gastroenterology Program Director
Dear Prospective Applicant,
I am excited to describe our gastroenterology fellowship program at Riverside Medical Center and hope that I can provide answers to questions you may have regarding our program. We have one fellowship position per year and a total of three fellows. Our fellows complete inpatient rotations with our stellar faculty at our main medical center and elective rotations at the University of Chicago (hepatology, inflammatory bowel disease and nutrition). Our faculty includes a diverse group of physicians that help provide a unique experience, including clinic time with a hepatologist from Rush Medical Center, advanced endoscopy and motility rotations.
Our fellows can expect to be well trained in evaluating various gastrointestinal conditions as they’re exposed to diverse cases in our community. They will gain competency in esophagogastroduodenoscopies (EGD), and colonoscopies and have exposure to endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), esophageal and anorectal manometry, wireless pH studies, capsule endoscopy, hemorrhoidal banding and radiofrequency ablation (RFA). Our fellows have a variety of interactive conferences, including journal club, mortality and morbidity conference, pathology and radiology conference and tumor board.
We expect and foster our fellows to be actively involved in clinical research. We have numerous ongoing research projects and hope our fellows can graduate with the ability to become familiar with the research process from project inception to data collection and analysis and finally to abstract preparation. Our fellows traditionally present these abstracts at scientific conferences. We hope this provides a comprehensive list of our program highlights, and we look forward to your application to our program.
Sincerely,
Nikhil Bhargava, DO, AGAF, FACG, FASGE
