Level II Special Care Nursery

Whether your little one is born on time or early, Riverside Healthcare can provide the vital, high-quality care your baby needs during those critical hours and days after birth.

Our Family Birthing Center has a Level II Special care nursery and a team ready to handle newborns needing continued surveillance or more advanced care.

Level II nurseries have equipment that provides respiratory support & cardio-pulmonary monitoring for closer observation.

This is where babies may be stabilized as they await transfer to a NICU

When You Need the NICU

If your baby is born significantly early or has medical complications, he or she will be transferred to a Level III NICU. This type of nursery is necessary for babies who are:

  • Born earlier than 32 weeks, weighing less than 1,500 grams
  • Critically ill
  • In need of special equipment to help them breathe and stay alive

A NICU is equipped with sophisticated technology and an expert staff of pediatric clinicians specializing in intensive neonatal care treatment of critical organs and systems, including the heart, lungs and kidneys.

If your baby has a more severe disorder or birth defect or requires specialized surgery, he or she may be transferred to a Level IV, Regional NICU. If your baby is doing well in the NICU but not ready to go home, he or she may be transferred to a Level II special care nursery.
